FAQs
For those quietly curious about attending…
What is Effortlessly Aware?
On one level, “effortlessly aware” points to something fundamental – awareness that is already here, before effort or thought. It doesn’t need to be created or earned. It simply is what’s here.
On another level, Effortlessly Aware is a small, non-dogmatic community formed around this recognition. We gather to sit quietly, walk gently, and share from the heart. There’s no belief system, no striving – just space to rest in what’s already aware.
Do I need meditation experience to participate?
Not at all. The approach is beginner-friendly. You don’t need to sit a certain way or control your thoughts. We simply explore awareness as it is – without trying to change the content of our minds
Is this a religious or spiritual group?
No. Effortlessly Aware is non-dogmatic. While gently inspired by traditions like Zen and non-duality, the focus is on direct experience – not beliefs, teachings, or systems.
Can I just come once, or is it a series?
You’re welcome to attend once or many times. Each gathering stands on its own, though returning may deepen your sense of connection and presence.
What happens at a gathering?
A typical gathering includes a short welcome, 10 minutes or more of silent sitting, a brief silent walk, and a sharing circle. The tone is unhurried, reflective, and open to silence.
What should i bring or wear?
Comfortable clothes are ideal. If you have a cushion or something soft to sit on, feel free to bring it – it can make things more comfortable, especially if we’re outdoors or on the ground. But it’s not required. Just come as you are.
How is this different from traditional mindfulness or meditation?
Traditional mindfulness often involves focusing on an object – like the breath or body – with sustained attention. Effortless mindfulness invites a direct shift into the spacious awareness that’s already here, without needing to concentrate or control.
is this therapy or coaching?
No. While the practice may support clarity and well-being, it’s not a substitute for therapy or coaching. It’s simply about resting as awareness – without fixing or analyzing.
is there a cost to attend?
There’s no required fee. If tea is shared or a space is rented, small donations may be welcome – but no one is ever turned away.
are the gatherings accessible to people with disabilities?
We’re doing our best to make gatherings as accessible as possible. If you have specific needs, feel free to reach out in advance—we’re happy to accommodate when we can.
